Oooh, I posted a blog post three days ago and forgot to mention it here! Here it is: a very subjective ✨reading list ✨ to learn more about differential privacy. I hope it can be useful to students & practitioners alike.

Ok, so everyone knows I fight NCP (non consensual pornography, aka revenge porn), but to many- this is a very niche problem. Let me give you glimpse as to how big this issue is.

Remarkable. Electronic patient records systems used by thousands of doctors were programmed to automatically suggest opioids at treatment, thanks to a secret deal between the software maker and a drug company. reports. via

people are overly concerned about completely hypothetical/fictional cases of Google selling their personal info, and not nearly concerned enough about the mobile carriers who *are*, and who've been caught doing it *repeatedly*

This has extremely high "boring dystopia" energy. “Someone paid me like 50 cents to recall the most painful memory of my life, it fucked me up for the entire day.”

It's our moral responsibility to speak up, and the changes to the communications policy are censoring us from exercising that responsibility. The climate crisis poses an unprecedented threat to humanity; now is not the time to silence employees.

Today I'm publishing a story based on leaked documents and interviews confirming what I have long suspected: tech companies know that content moderation can cause PTSD, and they are trying to shift blame for it onto workers.

Yes please. The number of articles with "leaks" that actually came from Google PR was ridiculous. Google got to: 1) push the company line without attribution 2) dishearten internal resistance by making employees mad about "the leakers" who were actually Google PR & execs

This is a really cool paper, well worth a read -- very readable, frames a crucial problem in simple formal terms, and has ton of references to fascinating work. Go read it! =)

Thoughtful, self-aware reflection on being a 50-50 PhD student/Googler. Wouldn't work for everyone, as he says—maybe esp. not for those w/out this level of reflection. Good reading (and short and sweet). Only imp. thing doesn't address is conflicts of interest.
