Once again, what is “normalizing” 3C of warming are misrepresentations of RCP8.5 as BAU, not criticisms of those claims and what has aided and abetted Trump administration attacks on fed climate science was misuse in fed climate assessments. Stop trying to shoot messenger.

Great article on a utility grappling with how to provide reliable and affordable power to people in a state that has passed a law mandating zero-carbon electricity by mid-century.

✨Professional news!✨ After 2 wonderful years, I'm leaving my job at the Bernard & Anne Spitzer Charitable Trust. I'm thrilled to share that I'll be joining as a Program Officer for the Environment, where I'll oversee grantmaking on US climate. I am so excited!

Important Nature Comment by and . A reprioritization of future scientific work away from the worst-case RCP8.5 emissions pathway towards lower, now-more-likely scenarios will be incredibly useful for both the scientific community + policymakers (THREAD)

Nature just published a comment by and I pointing out that the high-emissions RCP8.5 emissions scenario – with its 500% increase in coal use by 2100 – is increasingly unlikely in a world of falling clean energy prices. A thread: 1/11

Just out: "Happily — and that’s a word we climatologists rarely get to use — the world imagined in RCP8.5 [the scenario formerly known as BAU] is one that, in our view, becomes increasingly implausible with every passing year."

The Empty Radicalism of the Climate Apocalypse: on why, although "abundant, low carbon energy for all is a public good," climate progress will more likely happen in a "much more incremental, partial, decentralized fashion."

    1. Raises stakes on “models running hot” debate. 2. Also tipping points and feedbacks. 3. 3C = catastrophe is already a thing. 4. No matter what happens to us, nature gets hammered 2/2
