If a characters reason for being in a show is just because they are gay, they are an unnecessary character. If the character contributes to the plot but happens to be gay, who tf cares

It's a good mindset to say who cares (because it should be the norm) but it's about representation. When we've had decades of very minimal lgbt representation in media, it's always good to have well written lgbt characters
