They might try to TELL you what you mean when you say something, but that’s just some fucked way to control your language. If you know you didn’t mean that and the context suggests you didn’t, why would you apologize?

This isn’t a real argument. If the problem is that some completely irrelevant party that isn’t being addressed or isn’t in the group, will take it out of context and be hurt by it, then that’s a them problem. If YOU don't have a problem with people QUESTIONING whether YOU are homophobic based on YOUR choice to use QUESTIONABLE language, then you're right. None of this is your problem. But it sounds like you're saying no one should be able to question your intent. Why?

For me I don't like when people around me say "that's so gay" because it reinforces the notion that gay is a negative or that being gay is lame. But I know that the intention of the person saying it has absolutely ZILCH to do with gay people and so I don't consider it homophobic

So basically it's like, if I didn't specifically ask you to not say it around me then it's fair game. However if I could have things my way people wouldn't say it in general.
