Read the article The trial only handled the legal implications of whether a parent can deny their child medical treatment for transitions. The article went into a tangent about how this ruling "could" lead to misgendering constituting emotional abuse, but it isn't there yet.

It's misleading to say that Canada currently criminalizes misgendering when several landmark cases would have to occur before we even got to that point. This case more generally speaks more to giving dependents more autonomy than anything involving free speech.

Misgendering the child in THAT case was ruled as family violence. How is that not a criminalization of not only just disagreeing, but compelling speech?

Did we read the same article? Misgendering the child wasn't even what was on trial. It was whether the father can actively deny their child access to medical hormones. Which is a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT issue. We're talking about a parent denying a dependent the right yo...

You keep saying you read the article but apparently not all of it...that’s literally a part of it.

That part of the article stipulates that the results of this trial *could* *eventually* lead to a situation where misgendering your child is emotional abuse. It's in no way like that yet. It would take more landmark cases to get there. Which I said already.
