Too bad the “bell icon” is algorithmically handled. Verified by 2 different YouTube reps I talked to. So no, not even pressing the bell icon is a guarantee anymore.https://twitter.com/teamyoutube/status/977335508434010112 …

Sorry this topic has been so confusing, but that's not actually correct. If you tap the bell for a specific channel and choose *all notifications* then you receive all notifications. Otherwise, the default is to receive "occasional" notifications, which is the "algorithmic" part.

What a strange option. You either want notifications or you don’t. Why convolute and confuse? I was on a call where two reps argued with each other about whether it was or wasn’t algo handled so I’m hesitant to believe this. Especially when notifications rarely send out.

Furthermore, you could prove this by showing “notifications sent” and “notifications delivered” Otherwise this variance in notification views could be that you’re not actually sending them. Not to mention the wild variance in the sub feed.pic.twitter.com/KfeUG189QO

It provides more options, though! Someone might want to see all vids in their subs feed, but not get notified about every upload from every single subscription (especially if they have A LOT). The bell gives channel-level options: receive none, occasional, or all notifications.

The WAY it’s implemented is what’s poor, not its existence. Look at all of the responses. Finding even one response in favor of this is difficult. It even ads a tremendous load to your support team. Clearly needs revision.

Following up on this! Creator Insider posted an updated video with more clarity on how and why notifications work the way they do. Check it out here:https://goo.gl/KZ9tkw

Been wondering about this. Generally, if anyone I sub to does a livestream I either never get a notification or I get the notification after they're done.

Check your bell settings for that channel and see if you've opted-in to receive all notifications? You may be on the default setting, which is to receive notifications occasionally. Here's a guide to help check that plus your app and device level settings: https://goo.gl/giVA8o
