why does @TeamYouTube OCCASIONALLY notify subs like that defeats the entire point of subscribing

It provides more options! Someone might want to see all videos in their subs feed, but not get notified about every upload from every single subscription (especially if they have A LOT). The bell gives channel-level options: receive none, occasional, or all notifications.

But then why would they subscribe in the first play, wouldn’t it be a good idea to notify them all the time and they can personally change it to occasional if they choose? This way to prevent most subs from wondering why videos aren’t hitting their sub boxes

"All notifications" Except when the algorithm decides not to push a video

Why not reverse it though? Start with the bell clicked, and if they *don’t* want to see notifications they can unclick.
