Time for my periodic public callout of @UMG, who claimed this video, specifically the song starting at 13:43, an extremely clear-cut example of fair use, as the discussion is the lyrics of the claimed song. There's subtitles and everything.https://youtu.be/xU1ffHa47YY?t=823 …

No really tho tell your valid claim I will take this all the way to court because this is honestly absurd

You might want to hit up Jorg Sprave from The slingshot channel, who is leading the youtubers union in Europe. He might be very interested in this, and might have some advice. https://www.facebook.com/groups/youtuberunion/ …

You can’t lower Catbug to their level. Catbug deserves better.

Upon further review, there is indeed a lot of money in our asshole and we're afraid to pull the hand it's attached to out. To appease The Great Ass Hand, we have chosen to ignore law, on the grounds that poor people won't bother suing our bloated corporate asses.

Weird to see you in these parts, dad

Your copyright team needs some retraining. I bet somewhere there's a website with a video that explains "fair use" that they could watch.

YouTube, how are you so bad at everything

Path of least resistance. If YT kicks back the claim, UMG might take legal action against YT. If YT approves it, the only further course is for the creator to delete the vid or sue. It's the laziest option for YT, so it's their default.
