Image #1 is how my channel looks to me logged in as me. Image #2 is how my channel looks when logged in as someone else. Confirmed on multiple different machines, browsers, accounts, and regions.

No need to worry! We're currently testing out ways to improve how thumbnails look. You can expect the images to appear slightly different from time to time.
Look, in some situations I could see this being a handy feature, but you should make it optional. Not automatically stuck on for everybody. The best approach would be to have a slider to turn it on and off per video. With it off by default so creators (like me) aren't annoyed.

Some people are using a lot of time and effort into their thumbnails and you're ruining all their hard work! STOP IT!
why experiment with unwilling participants who don't know what's going on? i was confused why all of my thumbnails suddenly looked terrible and overexposed and couldn't figure out any solution ESPECIALLY when i was not notified i would be part of your "experimenting"
why is it not possible to be transparent when you are doing these things and we have to find out via a reply to someone else having the same issue? is it because you know no one will be happy about it or want to participate?

People make their own thumbnails for a reason. Sod off trying to fix something that doesn't need to be fixed. If he wanted his thumbnails brighter than he would have done it himself
this here not having Youtube trying to take control of everything and trying to change our thumbnails now it’s not that hard for us to just brighten up a image don’t need YouTube help for that
