It should be easy to know when you’ve found the official YouTube channel of a creator, artist, brand, or public figure. So in late October, we’re updating what it means for channels to be “Verified” w/ new eligibility criteria & a new look. Details → https://yt.be/help/3QfB pic.twitter.com/JXOvMbkbns

There's many reasons highlighted in that post for why we're making the change!! That one specifically refers to the checkmark/design update, there's other "why" language about the eligibility piece. Definitely give the full thing a read & let us know if it helps clarify!

It’s stated that it also depends on subscriber count and prominence. (I circled it because you forgot what your own rules said

That's the additional criteria outlined (just can't fit it all in one tweet!!).

Yeah but reaching 100’000 subs *is* a verification that you’re legit. 100’000 people won’t subscribe to a fake, especially when they see an account is verified. That no longer applies

The additional criteria is so wrong! You should not have to be known outside Youtube or have a strong presence within Youtube. Many are not interested in either of these things, nor are their subscribers.

This is not true. There are channels under 100K subscribers that are also verified on YouTube. The checkmark shows that the creator is authentic and that they are who they say they are, regardless of the subscriber count. Stripping that away removes authenticity for many of us.

I keep seeing this comment but I personally had to verify my channel by embedding a code in my official website, I had it well before 100k subs. Did this change at some point?
