To clarify, this isn’t related to content that is “suitable” for kids – it’s videos specifically w/ kids as the target audience (ie made for kids) based on the FTC definition. Machine learning will help creators identify this content, but they’ll self designate their own videos.

what about content aimed at kids, teens and adults? is there a third or fourth option for creators because kids or for adults being the only two options is rather problematic

It’s more about the individual video content & its target audience (is it made for kids? eg kids characters, themes) – creators know their videos & target audience better than anyone, which is why they’ll self designate (in addition to our systems). More: https://yt.be/help/pE5Q

what if I make a video aimed at adults but kids still watch it, are the ads for that video gonna be affected even if I designate it as for older audience? and won't non personalized ads mean kids will get ads for things that aren't age appropriate?

Again, you know your content best – if your content isn't made for kids, no action needed. Definitely check out the specifics/examples here: https://yt.be/help/pE5Q and we’ll share more resources + content strategy guides over the coming months too.
