(1/5) If you’re a creator of children’s or family content, you’re probably wondering what the changes we announced today mean for you and your channel. More details here https://yt.be/Bnqp , but keep reading this thread for a quick summary:

(2/5) These changes are necessary to address concerns about data collection on children’s content on YouTube, and they will take effect globally in about four months.

(3/5) The key thing to know is that we will stop serving personalized ads on children’s content, and some features will no longer be available on this type of content, like comments and notifications.

(4/5) To achieve this, we’ll need to properly identify content that’s made for kids. You know your audience best, so we’ll be asking you to make this distinction, while we’ll also use machine learning to spot content that’s made for kids.

(5/5) We know it’s quite a lot to adapt to and that these changes may have business implications for you. Please know that in the ~four months before these changes take effect and beyond, we’re committed to helping you adjust and explore alternative monetization options.

What I would like to ensure is that all animated content does not get pigeonholed into the “for kids” category simply because it’s animated. The medium does not define the content, which is a common bias animation faces.

To clarify, this isn’t related to content that is “suitable” for kids – it’s videos specifically w/ kids as the target audience (ie made for kids) based on the FTC definition. Machine learning will help creators identify this content, but they’ll self designate their own videos.

Have you guys encountered a resolution to my year-long problem on my family friendly, rule-following Channel? As tech support has found out over the year ignoring me doesn't make me go away LOL

So the machine learning will be using audio transcripts mainly to diagnose if content is made for children? I too am worried that it would flag anything animation based or anything with bright colours to be made "for kids". It won't though, right?

So best advice for creators would be: "be family friendly but not too family friendly"

That is a bit better, hopefully videos that may be automatically deemed as such (that aren't made with kids specifically in mind but may be perceived this way by the machine) will not be tagged a significant amount of times. I'll be interested to see where this goes

Then why are all the doll customizing channels in this category? Their content isn't for kids aka not 'w/ kids as the target audience' and they even use materials really dangerous and poisonous no kid should use!
