why did @youtube sent me a notification that it did connect my mobile app to my youtube account and updated my subscription (aka subscribed me to channels that I stopped watching and unsubscribed several years ago)? weird & annoying to go through my feed to clean it out

Unfortunately I didn't take a screenshot (dumb mistake) and it was in the bubble at the top of the homepage, I automatically closed it because I didn't realize what the update of subscription meant untill I looked through my feed. Sorry I can't provide something useful :/

Oh ok. Just to confirm, have you tried uninstalling the app updates, restarting the device and then reinstalling them? Could you please switch accounts & check if that helps. Also, if you similar issue in the future, share screenshots & we'll take a look. Let us know

No, it was out of nowhere. I was on my browser, returned to YT homepage, the notif. appeared. I was using mobile app in the morning but nothing out of ordinary. now I tried switching the accounts and the old subscriptions are again in my feed (i unsubed them earlier manually)

Ah ok. This is related to a recent YouTube Gaming subscription update. If you were subscribed to channels in the Gaming app, they’ll automatically move to your YouTube subs feed on May 14th. Learn more here: http://yt.be/help/yRe4

Well, I'm not aware that I used such app, but even if I did it should at least allow me to undo or deny the process. And even when I unsubscribed again (manually because I didn't find another option), some videos of those channels are still hanging in my feed.

We suggest you wait a few minutes to make sure there wasn’t just a short delay. If you’re still seeing videos from an unsubbed channel after a few minutes, you may be experiencing an issue with the subs feed that we’re working to fix–should be resolved in the next 24 hours!
