Hmm, could you check if your device has any pending OS updates available? If yes, update to the latest version to see if that resolves the issue.

I've checked tv and there are no available updates. I'm stumped with why the lag is so bad

Appreciate your efforts. Could you try switching networks? Also, if you're using Wi-Fi, restarting the router often fixes such issues. Let us know how it goes.
