@TeamYouTube - I’ve noticed recently that videos on the homepage of the mobile app now start playing automatically. I was wondering how this effects views on a video? If someone watches this way does it register as a view?
Oops, sorry for the confusion. It's the new feature on YouTube app, which plays a video automatically while you're on Home tab with captions. You can also turn it off from your settings. Find out more about this here: https://goo.gl/DjGHnC . Hope it helps.

Ok, one mystery solved lol. But the article doesn’t help with the original question - Do videos watched in this way still get views? Does it need to be watched for a certain amount of time to count as a view or does it not count at all?

Hmm, have you checked our Help Center article on 'how video views are counted': https://goo.gl/NjAipR . Hope this helps clarify.

Unless I’m wording it wrong? But if I scroll down my YouTube home page I’ll see the thumbnails, and if I stop scrolling over one for a moment it will begin to play with subtitles. I’m on a fully updated iPhone 6s+, doesn’t happen on desktop.
