Greetings! I'm a high school Chemistry teacher who has a YouTube channel. I try to post educational videos about various science topics. Recently (today) I was notified that I had a video removed from the channel due to a Community Guidelines violation. /1

The video that was removed showed a chemical reaction demonstration. It involves a hazardous chemical that can react with sugar to cause it to burn very vigorously. It's rather impressive, when done safely. /3

I fully admit, it could be dangerous if someone were to try and recreate the demonstration. So, I do *understand* why someone might want to flag it, and I understand why there is an argument to remove it. However... /4

...I'm very confused as to why it was removed, as there are *numerous* YouTube videos that show 1) The same demonstration (sometimes *not* performed by a professional) 2) Various other chemical reactions that are hazardous 3) Chemical reactions even more hazardous. /5

So, believe me, I take safety very seriously in my classroom. I understand safety concerns. I'm just very confused as to why my video specifically was removed when there's so many equal or more hazardous chemical reactions shown. /6

I'll also mention, I even have a warning at the start of mine that clearly states, the reaction is shown for educational purposes and that it should not be attempted at home. I just don't get it. /7

For me, this is *less* about wanting to get the video back "on the air" (though that would certainly be ideal) and more about wanting some feedback as to what specifically was wrong with my video compared to others so I can prevent this from happening in the future. /8

Thank you again for your time with this. Please understand, I already did ask for an appeal, but I have a feeling if it is not restored, I'll just get a non-specific form email that doesn't state any specifics that I can learn from. Thank you!!! /9 End

Thanks for the detailed info. Our system can sometimes make mistakes. Since you've already appealed, we suggest you wait for the decision email.

Understood, and thank you. I shall wait. I just hope that if they decide to still keep the video banned, there will be some detailed explanation as to specifically why, so I can prevent video removal in the future.

When I do the chemical reaction, it's in a controlled, classroom setting. I never show anything more than my hands, but I was wearing goggles and had safety equipment nearby...
