@TeamYouTube Hey team YouTube -- me and many other Chinese channels have been losing tons of subscribers since early September. We think it's because YouTube has been automatically unsubbing VPN users from mainland China. Can get no help via ordinary YouTube help. Can you advise?
Generally, it's normal to see fluctuations in your subscriber count. This is because we want to make sure the numbers are 100% accurate, so we perform additional verification and spam reviews. Also, it's likely folks are subscribing and unsubscribing as well. Hope this clarifies.

I understand, and this is the same response I always receive, but this doesn't explain why me and every other Chinese-language channel I talk to have seen massive unsub spikes starting on Sept. 4th. What happened? They're all ready to quit YouTube

Specifically, average daily unsubs are up more than double for my 150k sub channel 小马在纽约 since the issue started with a flat view count. The same is true for other large channels such as 文昭. What happened? I'm just looking for some clarity.

This my average daily unsubs (blue) versus view count (orange). It's pretty hard to explain this as normal subscriber fluctuation, especially given that it's simultaneously happening to every Chinese language channel out there (you can also ask the 300k sub channel Wen Zhao)pic.twitter.com/SFC9ts03da

It's extremely frustrating and has resulted in *severely* impaired subscriber growth for my channel and we're all running completely blind here, with no idea what's going or whether YouTube cares at all about this situation. Why keep doing YouTube if the channel doesn't grow?

Lots of Chinese YouTubers are speculating this is some sort of coordinated attack by Chinese gov't. This speculation is running rampant because YouTube has unfortunately provided zero visibility or transparency into the situation

Some comments from users (in Chinese, each with dozens of upvotes) attesting to having been unsubscribed from channels.pic.twitter.com/DuESzi3d1g

Another set of tweets from a Chinese YouTuber with the exact same problem as mine. (In Chinese but easily translatable.) What is going on here?https://twitter.com/sifan198964/status/1054449590412300289 …

In conclusion...because we can't get any support or even acknowledgement from YouTube here, what is your recommendation? Should I delete my channel because all my subscribers are invalid? Contact journalists to see if they can get a response from YouTube?
