@TeamYouTube why can’t you play 1440p videos on Apple devices such as the iPhone X, iPad Pro 2017, iPad Air 2 ETC anymore?

YT relies on VP9, the industry leading open-source codec, for distribution & playback of 4K videos. Using VP9 results in less buffering, faster startup, & higher video quality. The Apple 4K model does not support VP9, & therefore we can’t deliver 4K resolution on this device.
