  5. Concepts like "Gravity Tractors" have been proposed to avoid an incoming asteroid impact. Gravity tractors do this by leveraging the mass of the spacecraft to impart a gravitational force on the asteroid, slowly altering the asteroid’s trajectory.

  9. being much smaller than planets (and most moons) would have you think they can’t have moons of their own. Well, the Asteroid 243 Ida disagrees! This city-sized asteroid was found to have a small asteroid moon called Dactyl, imaged by 's Galileo spacecraft in 1993.

From this altitude of 12 km, the lunar descent can begin. To know why the orbits are designed the way they are and what constraints does the landing site impose on the orbit design, we have this article:

The next orbit's lowest point is selected such that the lunar descent can target the desired landing site from an appropriate altitude and downrange. Considering these requirements, another velocity-decreasing engine burn is performed to lower the orbit periapsis to 12 km.

The spacecraft then performs another engine burn near the periapsis to lower its orbit size further. This time around the apoapsis is lowered to 100 km, making the new orbit a circular one.

The spacecraft then closes in on the Moon with another such velocity-decreasing engine burn near the periapsis, lowering the orbit’s apoapsis to 1500 km.

At the closest point in the LTT (apoapsis), the spacecraft thrusters fire to orient the spacecraft in the opposite direction of the trajectory. The main engine then fires to reduce the velocity enough to be captured by the Moon in its orbit!
