As an ex-social manager, idk who needs to hear this but CREATING the social media content and MANAGING the social media content needs to be two separate jobs

I can't tell you how many late nights and early mornings I've pulled creating content on the fly for my higher-ups to lose their sh*t because the content had a spelling error/went out at the wrong time. That is a lot of responsibility and attention-to-detail for the UNDERPAID

This role requires you to be a copy editor/graphic designer/videographer/data analyst/moderator and you're lucky to make even 50k at an entry-level/associate level role. I had to negotiate my ass off to make even more than that.

yep. why i exited the 'field' 6 years ago - the demands made for the pay were ridiculous. ironically, all C suite ppl above *obsessed* w ROI, yet couldn't see how an injection of resources might help quality... holdover from when socmed was organic/"free" maybe?

AND you’re expected to have an eye on notifications even when you’re off the clock, often without being compensated for that time — which when you’re the lowest paid person on staff at an org is ridiculous.

I should say, *have an eye on notifications, and be prepared to respond (whether that’s a written response or an admin response). tbh, one of my happiest moments over the past few years was deleting all work social accounts off my phone. It was such a relief.

I messed up and thought 38k was enough to take on the role (which is a livable wage in my area). When I realized how much they expected versus how much I could legitimately have the time to do... I even offered to do original short form video content
