Journalists on the #longcovid and #disability beats: Protest scheduled outside White House on Mon 9/19 at 12pm. Dozens disabled by #mecfs and post-viral illness may be arrested as they sit down to rest. Great visuals, and a window into a major story.
Given the amount of attacks I’m seeing online, I’d like to help folks who are just getting more audience prep for attack. When I first started to get more of an audience that came with white supremacists attacks, I looked everywhere and had a hard time finding best practices.

Wrote about today’s Senate hearing and the resurgence of the ‘divest TikTok movement.’ Lots of people have something to gain by banging that drum, and it’s only getting louder

I spent the summer chasing Satan -- talking with people who have been newly accused as "Satanists" or so-called ritualistic abusers. Experts told me we were in a modern day version of the moral panic of the 1980s, when hysteria over the devil reigned.
mike cernovich, who furiously promoted qanon's predecessor, pizzagate, is trying to rebrand as someone who sought to warn people about the dangers of such conspiratorial thinking. i don't know why these guys think that just because they delete their tweets people forgot.
Wrote about the very stupid and unfortunately frequent backlashes to Black actors being cast as elves, mermaids, hobbits, superheroes, sith, etc and the more serious stuff behind it. https://theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/09/lord-of-the-rings-rings-of-power-fantasy-sci-fi-racist-criticism/671421/…
"As the climate warms ... we will all have to decide exactly what sort of behavior we find morally acceptable—and we will have to take note of the fact that 'There is no alternative' can sometimes rapidly turn into 'There is no excuse.'"
It’s wild seeing extreme stans try to argue with normal people. You’ll say “sending death threats is bad” and they’ll try to pull receipts to make the person they harassed look bad. Like, we don’t care what you think they did. We think YOUR behavior is abhorrent
This is stunning!
To allow riders to better view autumn leaves, the driver of this Eizan Electric Railway train on the Kurama Line switches off the lights so passengers can better view this "Maple Tunnel" outside #Kyoto.
Another reason to love #Japan's rail culture.
"Servants of the Damned" – my book investigating the awesome and often-corrosive power that giant law firms secretly wield over our politics, economy and society – is being published today.
I think it's an important book. A short 🧵 on why I wrote it.
In one of their subreddits someone asked what new topics everyone was following, since the topic of that sub is drying up. A lot of them responded, seemingly with no self awareness, explaining which new women they’re planning to hate next.
It’s actually weird how aligned the online trolls are to hate on women standing up for themselves across time and place. It is a direct line from one woman-hating cause to the next.
And many of those trolls are at least depicted as women online.
for fans of reading the wikipedia page about a food while you’re eating it, i suggest reading the wikipedia page about a movie while you’re watching it
, has launched a new publication — FOOD FIX.
And I’m curious: Are there secrets to launching a new pub? Can she cover the news differently now?

My latest: Bulk text messaging — a tactic that's hard for individuals to filter, increasingly common, and impossible for authorities to monitor — is poised to be the new front for election disinformation:
I’d gain more empathy if they’re planning to change the culture around bookmarking/saving— bringing some element of public curation into the user experience
Considering the growing popularity of the Repost feature, I could definitely see that. But in the meantime.. feels sleazy
now notifies users who “favorited” their videos
Most users utilize that icon as a way to bookmark/save a post— which could be for a wide variety of reasons. There’s too much personal nuance for something like that to be public
We used to call these folks social media editors! Half the time in those heady days was spent helping journos get set up and start tweeting. Never thought as myself as a coach. Guess I was a coach!
