”When you talk about Nintendo and Sony, we have a ton of respect for them, but we see Amazon and Google as the main competitors going forward.” - Phil Spencer https://www.theverge.com/2020/2/5/21123956/microsoft-xbox-competitors-phil-spencer-cloud-gaming-amazon-google …

Based off the interview, it appears Microsoft wants consistent representation in both cloud and traditional gaming. However they also know that Nintendo and Sony aren't embracing cloud at least not yet (1/2)

I see this as Microsoft trying to keep representation in both markets as Xbox has made it clear they are trying to make gaming accessible to as many people as possible. It makes sense why they want to view Amazon and Google and other cloud services as competition.

Hmm. Still seems strange to me considering that Nintendo & Sony are the proven gaming behemoths while Stadia is underwhelming & Amazon has...what exactly?

Cloud gaming has yet to receive it's equal footing in traditional gaming as it hasn't been around nearly as long. It'll awhile until both have an even playing field. But Microsoft is showing signs of thinking and being 10 steps ahead
