I played DQ7 on the 3DS and found it too long. I feel like it's a series I'd like if I found the right game. Is VIII better?

To be honest I feel that Dragon Quest, VI, Dragon Quest VIII or Dragon Quest IX are more friendly games for people who wanna get into the series. I would recommend playing the 3DS remake of DQ8 but the original PS2 version is good but I like the added features the 3DS remake has
