One student after broke down and I took them out in the hall and they told me “I didn’t think I would go home.” I held them as I was on the verge of tears and told them “I will never let anyone come into these schools to hurt you.” (2/2)

I’m an American living overseas and I just want to say to my fellow citizens - this isn’t happening in other countries. Just America. Which suggests it isn’t inevitable and can be stopped.
-
I am an American living overseas too, largely because I don’t want to raise my children in the US. Their biggest fear at school should be whether they did their homework, not whether they survive the day.

My oldest is 6 and he always tells me when they have a drill. I remind him to listen to every single thing his teacher says immediately. It breaks my heart that I know she would do everything she could to protect him while knowing her child is in the class next door.

This drill sounds like child abuse.

Lockdown drills are perhaps the single worst thing we can do to protect our students. they're essentially training the school shooter where to be for maximum kill.
-
I disagree respectfully. We can't just be sitting ducks. We have a plan. I have 8 foot dowel/curtain rods ready for jamming in a shooter's privates, a fire extinguisher picked up by another kid and 29 Chromebooks ready to be flung like frisbies. We need to be ready.
