Non-dudes, if/when you code in public [coffee shop/airport/on the plane], do people approach you/ask you questions? If yes, what do they usually ask/say? [see threaded tweet if you identify as a dude]

has literally never happened to me once and I intentionally go to the airport 2 hours early because I work more effectively there for some reason. also, never happened in coffee shops to me anywhere I’ve been in the world. European coffee shop folks seem allergic to conversation
-
WHAT THAT LIFE SOUNDS AMAZING Coffeeshops: <30%, agree, less in Europe thank god Airports/airplanes: >80%, like "take off your headphones pls" Tierney one guy CHASED ME DOWN THE CUSTOMS RAMP at LHR to ask me about what I was doing and to brag how he tinkered in code lololol

Always get the nosey crane their neck to see but never actually ask or say anything to me other than “you’re tall (subtext: and black) do you play basketball?!”
-
I hate that this happens to you. Aggressors gonna microaggress

This has happened to me many times when traveling alone, especially in Oregon and Seattle. Usually it's some dude eager to tell me that income tax is unconstitutional, he's "studying law", and various government conspiracies he's working to uncover. I'm a nut attractor.
-
One time a dude told me that he's working on a whole new programming paradigm, anoperating system to support FTL space travel. Used python instead of node, because JavaScript is how corporations spy on us, so rubygems and npm aren't trustworthy. Didn't tell him what I do.

It happens occasionally and when it does it's usually some question like "Do you do side work?" or "Do you know of anyone that would like to help start my business?"
-
oh funny for me it's like *points at CLI* "Are you actually doing real computer stuff there?" "Are you *winks* hacking me?*
