Cy Twombly was born
#OnThisDay in 1928. In the 1950s, he wrote that the act of painting could come out of ‘one ecstatic impulse’—an intensity demonstrated in these energetic swirls of red paint.

Tate Modern is soon to open The EY Exhibition:
#TheMakingofRodin, the first to focus on Rodin's unconventional making processes. The exhibition will feel like exploring the artist's studio, encountering plaster casts & experimental sculptures. Book here: https://bit.ly/3auUrEX pic.twitter.com/F4C8p9yZ4c

Spot the sculpture!
This is Barbara Hepworth's 'Apollo' 1951, nestled in the artist's garden in St Ives, Cornwall.
Made from two narrow steel rods, the work appears as a drawing in space. https://bit.ly/3vaxaQz

Fancy a walk along the river this weekend? Enjoy a sunny pitstop outside Tate Modern where we're serving wood-fired pizzas & Jude's ice cream.

Doesn't get much better that that (...just the galleries reopening). https://bit.ly/3tD0uP3 pic.twitter.com/FivPvwwgnu

If you look up at Tate Britain today you'll see a flag by Agnes Denes that reads 'The Future is Fragile, Handle with Care'. Denes' flag calls for an urgent response to the impact of Covid-19 on mental health, but also to climate change, and the health of our planet.

Sarah Jones enjoys photography for its capability to freeze a moment & look closely at it. It's with this powerful scrutiny that her work reveals something of the uncanny in the everyday...

#TateWeather predicts more sunny, blossom-filled days ahead!
Much like the idyllic scene in Duncan Grant's delightfully disordered English cottage garden. https://bit.ly/3st4ikI pic.twitter.com/6nal3OK8d6

When writer Mary Hutchinson sat for Vanessa Bell in 1915, she was the mistress of Bell’s husband Clive - of which Bell was aware. This may account for the unflattering nature of the portrait. Bell wrote ‘it’s perfectly hideous, and yet quite recognisable.' https://bit.ly/3sy1i6v pic.twitter.com/B7hpPbQMDL

Beatriz Milhazes' Banho de Rio (River Bath) is bursting with colours, shapes & motifs, from cascading ovals to floating florals.

Milhazes is fascinated by rivers. 'In our imagination, rivers are blue, but they can also be any other colour.’ https://bit.ly/32xcBBi pic.twitter.com/ppohdiVnWP

Our
#WorkOfTheWeek is Ellen Gallagher's 'Bird in Hand' 2006.
The canvas is dominated by the standing figure of a sailor or pirate with a peg-leg and an abundance of swirling hair, standing in an underwater scene. Read more about the work here: https://bit.ly/32kyCTZ pic.twitter.com/NR0622NUHq

William Holman Hunt painted this sheepy scene from summer through to winter in 1852, enduring rain, wind & bitter cold. The view shown is of the Lovers’ Seat, an idyllic spot near Hastings, Sussex. See the work at Tate Britain when we reopen.
