...and begin to talk about power. Sexual violence is about power and privilege. That doesn’t change if the perpetrator is your favorite actress, activist or professor of any gender. And we won’t shift the culture unless we get serious about shifting these false narratives.

My hope is that as more folks come forward, particularly men, that we prepare ourselves for some hard conversations about power and humanity and privilege and harm. This issue is less about crime & punishment and more about harm and harm reduction.

A shift can happen. This movement is making space for possibility. But, it can only happen after we crack open the whole can of worms and get really comfortable with the uncomfortable reality that there is no one way to be a perpetrator.

...and there is no model survivor. We are imperfectly human and we all have to be accountable for our individual behavior.

People will use these recent news stories to try and discredit this movement - don’t let that happen. This is what Movement is about. It’s not a spectator sport. It is people generated. We get to say “this is/isn’t what this movement is about!”

Also happens with lesbians, unfortunately. I fear that no one would believe my story.
-
What everyone else said. I hope you find some solace in the chorus of diverse voices. There is no one kind of survivor.

-
The issue is that a psychologically and physically abusive person will often have a public persona that is carefully cultivated. Ugh, makes me feel so weak.
-
You're not weak. Don't tell that story about yourself. You've survived. You're NOT weak.

#Noroomtogroomonyoutube grooming is usually the start of most abuse. We need to teach are children what grooming is and protect them.#metoo
-
Tarana - if you have a second, could you please look into the hashtags
#TIMESUPYOUTUBE and#NoRoomToGroomOnYouTube which addresses sexual violence, grooming & rape within the youtube community? -
I will - we definitely have to address grooming in society in general.
-
This is a petition to have YouTube ban abusers from their platform!https://www.change.org/p/susan-wojcicki-patreon-youtube-must-change-their-policy-to-protect-victims-of-sexual-assault-harassment …
-
Thank you so much Tarana (and Katie)! I've been using
#MeTooYoutube and#TimesUpYoutube to address abuse on youtube (I was raped myself while working with another youtuber. My court case is in Sep.)#NoRoomToGroomOnYoutube emerged the last few days to address grooming too. - 1 more reply

Why hasn’t the movement spoken out about the Ohio State stories? Remained silent on the PA Church stories? Is it the lack of Celebrity or being male b cause I can not for the life of me see any other differences...people in powerful positions exploiting other humans.
-
The point of a movement is for ALL of the people in it to have a voice. I speak out on a lot of issues and some I miss or let others speak out on. It should be clear that anybody who is working to end sexual violence feels strongly about these issues.

These tweets should have been sent after Terry Crews was sexually assaulted in public by another grown man in front of his own wife! But it didn’t happen because the assailant was a top agent for WME, and is still employed! The movement picks and chooses when to open their doors
-
That's demonstrably false. Tarana Burke was very vocal about Terry Crews & how men are represented in the movement. Terry Crews has praise for
#MeToo
as well, see these articles: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/terry-crews-safe-horizon-award_us_5afc4745e4b0a59b4dff8f9c … https://www.salon.com/2017/12/24/terry-crews-and-the-shifting-image-of-survivors/ …pic.twitter.com/B4IFlbEb8T

That’s really cool to read...but I didn’t see 6 tweets come from her the way she unleashed them this morning after her spokeswoman was caught with a boy in one hand and a checkbook in the other. That news of her support for men being abused as well didn’t go viral until today.
-
First, Asia isn't "her spokeswoman". Second, why would she send these tweets when this doesn't have anything to do with Crews situation? Terry has not been found to also be an abuser which is what sparked the tweets.
-
I'm also just very confused by this guy because Terry Crews has been one of the males heavily involved. They praise each other all the time.
-
Reclaim your time, beloved! His intent is to confuse. Tarana has been consistent about this; she supports all victims. Yet he's inexplicably invested in trying to convince people that Tarana did not support Terry Crews and that she only spoke up for men today. It's ludicrous.pic.twitter.com/X9YJFJeqhM

Listen. He may be a bot or a troll. I don't even know why I'm arguing.
