At Color Of Change, we center #BlackJoy in all the work we do. This Valentine’s Day, we want to celebrate @aliciagarza and @TaranaBurke for spreading Black joy through their work in movement building. Who are your #BlackJoyValentines bringing us closer to racial justice?
Your work [in movement building] brings us closer to a more human, less hostile world for Black people.

Remember Selma.

Every year, usually for *one* day, all eyes are on #Selma as some of the country remembers the sacrifices made there to advance the notion of US democracy. Today more than ever, the residents of this historic city needs love and SUPPORT!… twitter.com/FOX6Hardison/s…

This is a real story that happened to my friend Liam. It shouldn’t happen to anyone.

I am autistic and had a meltdown three weeks into the pandemic. I couldn’t sign (I am deaf and use ASL). I could only scream. I was inflicting harm on myself - hitting my head until it bled. My friend, meaning well, called the police. Why this never shld have happened. Thread 1/6

What activists are asking for isn’t different from what the average voter is looking for- leadership. To trust that the President is doing everything in his power to save lives and protect our rights. No one is asking Biden to do the impossible. We’re asking him to do the maximum

I was born in the BX in 1973. The year of Roe. My mom was 22 in college. The ‘decision’ was made but the ‘safety’ the law provided didn’t hit the hood right away. And so my mom made the safe choice. Today’s decision isn’t going to stop abortion. Just safe choices.

I didn't write Wonder Woman, but if you want to argue that she is somehow not a queer or trans icon, then you're not paying attention. Every time someone comes up to me and says that WW helped them while they were closeted, it reminds me how special the role is.

I couldn’t send the ‘thoughts and prayers’ filling my head right now out to anyone I wanted to wish well. So I’m sending all the strength and love I can muster to the parents and people of the Uvalde community while I pray nobody asks me to share these thoughts I’m sorting out.

I’m not on here much but 2 things are on my mind that I need a place to put… 1. Does anyone else feel like there is a secret Covid surge? I know about 8 people with it right now. 2. Is any watching The Man Who Fell To Earth with Chiwetel? Sundays on Showtime? IT’S SO GOOD!

So grateful to @TaranaBurke for calling me and saying, "Hey, I have an idea." And, equally grateful for the writers who shared their hearts, their stories, and their truths with the world. Happy 1 year anniversary to "You Are Your Best Thing!"
