Today’s goal: Do not be led by fear; fear cannot lead you out of the dark. Find whatever bits of hope you can—a trail of even the smallest bread crumbs, even the tiniest pebbles reflecting the moonlight—and follow them. Keep moving.

In any given situation, listen to the community most affected. It's really simple. If they need help and they ask for it, give it. Why is this so hard. Don't tell them how to be, or how to deal with it. Just fucking listen.

My essay is on the home page today, and it will be in the Sunday print edition. This one was difficult. Thank you to for taking such care with it.

Here's to the year my next-door neighbor is having. Nightly, between 2 & 6 AM, she moans "Oh oh ohhhhh God" for about an hour & a half--I am not kidding. This is just to say: Can anyone recommend a VERY good white noise machine?

BREAKING: I have an updated description of the murderer of Jazmine Barnes from a confirmed eyewitness. 1. He wore glasses. 2. In his 40's 3. Beard was both black and white. Not shabby, but trimmed. 4. Not heavy set, less than 200 pounds, but had a belly.
