    On this day in 1966, 250 black students marched through downtown Tuskegee, Alabama, to protest the murder of Samuel “Sammy” Younge Jr., who was shot for asking a white attendant to use an all-white restroom. An all-white jury acquitted the attendant who shot Mr. Younge.

    American jails and prisons have banned thousands of books including Bryan Stevenson's memoir "Just Mercy." State officials rarely explain why books are banned and abuse their power in censoring reading material deemed "serious threats" to security.

    Seeing all the posts from . students about how they engaged in critical discourse, liberation based pedagogy, and culturally affirming learning makes me so proud to be a part of this program. it’s never about “surviving” grad school - at UMB, we focus on thriving!

    Tatiana Melguizo blowing people's minds with her research showing that 77% of black students and 64% of Latino students who had achieved a "B" or better in Algebra 2 (or better) were placed into developmental math as opposed to 29% misalignment for white students.

    On this day in 2010, California defended its prison conditions in a case that challenged overcrowded prisons. In 2011, the Supreme Court ruled against the state and required it to release thousands of prisoners to remedy severe overcrowding and grossly inadequate medical care.
