The Qatari govt acted fast to address the issue but this is still a warning of what can happen when highly invasive and untested tech is rolled out fast - and should serve as a cautionary tale to the more than 45 countries that have already - or plan to - roll out similar apps.
While the security flaw is fixed, Qatar's app remains highly problematic as it is mandatory & personal data continues to be uploaded to a central database. Authorities can enable real-time tracking of users at any time.
