Am on a plane and reading my assigned grants for an upcoming NIH review panel... these proposals are so impressive! My fellow allergists & immunologists have such great ideas and ambition. I wish we could fund them all. Does anyone else actually enjoy NIH grant review?! Just me?

This is a super cool paper that incorporates human B cel single cell transcriptomics (one of the first studies to do so) with other immune analyses to come out with a complete picture and a new understanding of the pathways involved.

And for this 2nd round Reviewer #3 comes back with 3 PAGES of line-by-line copy editor-like requests. Add a comma here. Remove a comma there. Replace “toward” with “to”. Remove the word “recently”. Define the word “small” when used in front of the word molecule... etc Just wow.

Received 2nd round of reviews on an invited review manuscript. Reviewers 1&2 are now fully happy. My co-authors and I had responded to #3’s odd list of unnecessary and non-substantive suggestions the 1st time (we just held our noses and changed each detail they asked for). 1/2

Great editorial by Dr. Mariana Castells in this month’s about the advancement of female allergists/immunologists — her personal and historical perspective combined with practical advice for what needs to change is very powerful.

Did you know that (AERD) is a disease that affects over 1.5 million people in the US alone? When put in the context that 1 in 20 asthmatics have , this is likely more common than most would think! (Source: Rajan et al., 2015)

The passengers were all totally fine with the request — no one objected. Good job and good job humanity. is a big deal to those who have it. The rest of us can make teeny sacrifices to help.
