I recently got the advice (from someone I want to be like!) to listen the most to the advice of the people you want to be like. This has hugely changed my life for the better.

A little-known fact: doing an internship in Systems Biology at Harvard involves having fun. For example, going whale watching together. Apply by Feb 9! This is a paid internship, and we cover accommodation. And boats.

Did you know that your international student postdoc lives with the constant fear/anxiety/feeling of uncertainty related to the fact that at the end of OPT (1 years with a possible 2 year extension), that person would need to leave the US, possibly with no backup plan? 1/n

I’ve seen several really excellent faculty not get tenure at fancy new interdisciplinary centers, because the people who run them haven’t figured out how to evaluate their peers with joint appointments or who cross disciplinary boundaries.
