    Enough of this bullshit. I'm a Warren supporter, but I will gladly vote for Bernie Sanders in November if he wins the Democratic primary. This behavior isn't cute when Bernie supporters do it, and it's not cute when everyone else does it. The stakes are too high.

    I think there’s an inherent insecurity that comes with being an artist because in order to truly complete the task, you have to show it to others for a reaction, and you instinctively hope that reaction is positive....

    I’m not an authority. I’m just thinking about this stuff on a Saturday morning. Maybe none of this would help. But maybe it would. Regardless, I do think the way we talk about art needs to change. /END

    Not to say that writing isn’t often under-valued or that there aren’t struggling writers out, because BOY HOWDY ARE THERE. This is not a writers vs artists thing. It’s not a zero-sum game. With companies making Billions with a B, there should be plenty to go around. /11

    But, I see writers openly talk about how hard it is to do what they do on twitter and social media. I believe them. And I see how their work is valued. Maybe we artists need to be upfront with how hard it is to do what we do. /10

    Maybe we talk more openly about the piece that we tried and tried and tried to make work but eventually just had to give up on. It’s doesn’t have to be all sackcloth and ashes either. /9

    The work isn’t being valued commensurate to the value being reaped. So, maybe we need to change how we talk about art as artists. Maybe when we post personal work we should give an honest accounting of the time it took and the difficulties faced. /8

    And I have noticed that art in general isn’t as valued as much as other fields and it isn’t valued as much as it should be. Both on the micro and macro scale. From the Internet artist grinding on commissions, to artists on hit animated series, to VFX and Vis dev in film /7

    Other times it’s that we don’t want other artists to know that we have a hard time! Fearing that, if weakness is perceived, we’ll be ostracized by our peers and role-models. I know I have felt this. And something tells me I’m not alone. /6

    Sometimes it’s to maintain an air of mystery about what we do. If the magician shows off how he did the trick, it ceases to be impressive, right? And there is a certain wisdom in that. But we aren’t magicians we’re craftsmen(craftspeople?) /5
