Because of how delegates are distributed across the various caucuses (irrespective of how turnout is *tomorrow*, for instance); so a bit of an electoral college-esque situation (without the winner take all amplification)

The notion that only the Iowa delegate numbers count just strikes me as so silly. Iowa is a single, very small state. Its power is in the symbolism of Winning the First Contest, not in its wealth of State Delegate Equivalents.

Yes because first alignment is before people are allowed to re-align. Better question is what if second alignment and SDEs are different (which is less likely but possible). But at the end of the day the party made these rules and SDEs determine delegates.
