The plan to close voting sites in Randolph County generated huge outcry. But Georgia officials have closed *214* voting locations across 53 counties since 2012. Even on top of the racially-motivated voter suppression, there’s an element of the GOP that just wants all interactions with the govt to be a pain in the ass. On the theory that folks will then support shrinking govt and privatizing.

I would dearly love to see mandatory voting in this country.

In Aust it’s compulsory. Register @ 18. Placed on electoral roll. Vote on the day at designated area, have name checked, given voting papers. Can also do prior postal or early voting if travelling or whatever. It’s easy
