Contrary to others, I listen. I have been in deep reflection and trying to be as thoughtful as possible. I want my own work to speak for itself but I will reiterate my commitment to building this movement. I won’t go back, I won’t redraw the lines of division. I want a new way.

I have dedicated my life to Black people and Black communities. I wake up every day thinking of new ways to protect my people. I have now found new relationships. I am in deep friendships with Muslims, Latinx, LGBTQ folks, Jews & others. Learning something every day.

If you call Louis Farrakhan your hero and refuse to criticize, you're not against all forms on racism. If you attend hate-group rallies, you're not against all forms of racism. If you post racist diatribes on social media, you're not against all forms of racism. -End of story-

The issue here is not that you're being unclear. The issue is that you like Louis Farrakhan. You keep obfuscating around that point because you don't want to expose your true beliefs.https://twitter.com/Alex__Katz/status/969948761945358336 …

Thank you. We’re all learning together. Keep doing the great work. We’ve got work to do in the Jewish community as well to end our own complicity in and perpetuation of anti-black racism. None of us are free until all of us are free. Solidarity

I don’t think and never said that Jews “stand” for anti-black racism, but we do perpetuate it in different ways, some big, some small. Many Jews of color do not feel comfortable in Jewish spaces. We need to figure out why that is and work to make our community better

Small things might be micro-aggressions that make people feel othered or unwanted, bigger things might include overt political action (or inaction as the case may be). It also includes passively accepting that, if you are white-passing like me, you are afforded certain privileges
-
This is absolutely true and completely irrelevant to the convo about Tamika & Farrakhan. Farrakhan doesn't hate Jews b/c of how JOCs are treated, he hates us b/c we are Jews. He hates Jews no matter our color & moving the convo away from condemning antisemitism right now is wrong
-
It was an expression of solidarity: that our obligations to each other’s communities are mutual. But yes, I do agree. This kind of went off on a tangent
-
But why would you express solidarity with someone who is expressly in solidarity with someone who hates us (& gays & women...)? When given the choice between condemning antisemitism & supporting it, something that should be a no-brainer, she just can make the right choice.

As a bw myself, I don't want someone so shortsighted as a leader of a multiracial women's movement. EVERYONE KNOWS HE IS AN ANTI-SEMITE. Come on. Stop it.
-
he has also made some pretty misogynistic statements lol

I don't think people are accusing you of being racist or antisemitic, many are surprised with your support to Farrakhan whose principles are against everything you stand for.
-
Everything she pays lip service to; which is different from what she actually stands for. Because if she actually stands for solidarity, condemning anti-semitism and misogyny would be easy.

1 of 2 What I have learned from this thread is that being unapologetically pro-black will always translate to THEM as being anti-white/jewish/gay, etc. Where are ANY OF THEIR VOICES when police shoot us down in the streets??
#PhilandoCastille#MikeBrown#TamirRice -
Who is the “they” you are talking about. Are black gay folks included in that “they”? Because our voices have always been raised against racism even when our own people don’t have our back.
-
No. And you're right. I am referring to the mainstream organizations that seem to lose their voices when it comes to issues that specifically affect black people. Gay black people get shot by cops, too.
-
He knew who you were referring to. You gotta read between the lines and recognize the trolls. Then....ignore them. Don't feed them. Just a suggestion.
