Holy crap nutrition is getting as bad as GMOs, with the YES-MEAT and NO-MEAT camps digging in and lobbing nasties over the parapet. Here's a slide from a presentation by Walter Willett (!) calling responsible people working in good faith purveyors of "disinformation."pic.twitter.com/n24Qe2rKOp

That's @AnnalsofIM, Annals of Internal Medicine, which published the study saying go ahead keep eating red meat. https://annals.org/aim/fullarticle/2752328/unprocessed-red-meat-processed-meat-consumption-dietary-guideline-recommendations-from …

And @ginakolata reports for the @NYTimes, and wrote a story about it. I disagree with Kolata pretty often, but she's a totally responsible journalist and her story is neither disinformation nor sensationalist. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/09/30/health/red-meat-heart-cancer.html …

Patrick Stover is an animal scientist, and Gordon Guyatt is the guy who coined "evidence-based medicine" and believes the evidence to not eat meat (for health) is shaky.

I think Willett's got his back up because of accusations of conflict of interest related to the EATLancet report, which said eat almost no meat and was partially funded by the Stordalen Foundation, which has a meatless agenda. So he lashes out.http://www.stordalenfoundation.no/#mission

This went down at a cardiology conference. I wasn't there but a friend sent me the slide. https://www.eeds.com/portal_live_events.aspx?ConferenceID=764902 …

Both the YES-MEAT and the NO-MEAT folks often have commercial enterprises (eg books, consulting gigs) that tie money to their agenda and those MUST be disclosed. But from where I sit they ALL come by their position honestly.

When one of the top nutrition guys in the country, Walter Willett, publicly accuses a prominent science journalist and two well-known scientists of dealing in disinformation, that's a problem. Honorable people can disagree about the role of meat in the diet. OK I'm done.
