I look at that and wonder why the groups have such different starting points. Like is it a function of age gap, or novelty bias, or something else entirely?

My hunch: Democrats respond to the word “democracy” (think Russians) while Republicans respond to the “free speech” cue (think “social media bans conservatives”-style fearmongering). Survey question shouldn’t have included both cues. :/

More importantly, I guess: political discourse is so fragmented that even the salience of certain issues and terms varies wildly based on partisanship.
