131 people were executed for drug offences in Iran in 2021 – a sudden and worrying increase from 25 executions in 2020 & a reversal of the downward trend since 2018. Executions for drug offences also comprised a much larger proportion of total executions.

The "White Problem" narrative of addiction has long ignored that minoritized communities suffered disproportionately from US drug policy. Now, Black and Native overdose rates are higher than White. Overdose must be treated as a racial justice issue.

A fine of max 1,000 shekels can still be given, although it's unclear what for. any monetary fine means those that can afford it will never be tried for cannabis possession. The regulation will be signed soon, and scrutinised by global drug policy experts (like us)

"The new regulations would not apply to those also charged with other offenses alongside cannabis use, apart from possession of drug paraphernalia; to those who were convicted during military service; or to minors." When you're proposing decrim, why not include all drug crimes?
