I've not given up on Nier yet (will try more today), but I think that's largely because I unlocked fast travel at the end of last time.

So the game being mostly the latter in terms of both "time spent" and "what people seem to care about with it" is just not ideal.
Conceptually, I love jumping in front of an enemy attack with the intention of dodging it at the last second and getting rewarded for it.

Dodging stuff in this game is fun. Although that huge air attack you do to riposte seems kind of inconsistent.
