Possible unpopular opinion: I truly dislike how ridiculous addons are now. I believe the ability to track every players cooldowns and having weak auras for all of your buffs/debuffs really takes away from player awareness and having to communicate what exactly is going on.
I’ve always liked addons in PvP and was sad when I had to turn everything off for tournaments. I prefer the higher potential that players can reach with the additonal knowledge from addons. Using the info well is an underrated skill.
I agree, although I think there is a potential overload of information with addons like Weakauras. I think the overall increase of addon usage has had consequences for the overall skill-level of PvP. You no longer need to be aware of CDs, but just need to focus on addon.
I can definitely see the perspective of players having a higher potential but at what point does it cross the line and simplify the game? Being able to track every CC, every damage CD, every defensive by staring at the timer on your omnibar or having a sound trigger during CDs
Agree some of the weak auras in particular are bad for the game "MIND GAMES. STOP CASTING" etc. But I think without omnibar in particular I wouldn't ever know if some classes used their kick.
Do you think games like dota/lol/overwatch would benefit from addons? I personally don't, and i think if wow had no addons to begin with, but a way more customizable ui, it would be a better game
