Stop with the Islamophobic comparisons as if things like this aren’t part of the founding of America. Constantly downplaying Christian extremism in the U.S. is how we got here.

A 10-year-old girl is raped. The State forces her to remain pregnant and tells her to consider it an “opportunity.” This isn’t Iran. This isn’t Gilead. This isn’t hypothetical. This happened today in Ohio.

JESUS CHRIST “When her brother Angel, who is Amerie’s stepfather, learned from a fleeing child that a girl named Amerie had been shot inside, he ran to try and reach his daughter but was handcuffed by a local police officer” nytimes.com/live/2022/05/2
Screenshot excerpt of linked text: Desirae Garza, whose niece Amerie Jo Garza was killed, said she rushed to the school when they heard the first reports of gunshots. Families being held back by the police outside the school grew increasingly frantic as they watched horrified students slowly escaping, being pulled out of windows and heading toward a nearby funeral home, some with blood on their faces, she said.

She said families were yelling at officers to do something, and pleaded that their children were still inside. When her brother Angel, who is Amerie’s stepfather, learned from a fleeing child that a girl named Amerie had been shot inside, he ran to try and reach his daughter but was handcuffed by a local police officer, Ms. Garza said.
His daughter’s cousin also died in the shooting. Mr. Cazares said he believes that a faster police response would have made a difference. “More kids would have been saved, in my opinion.”

Mr. Cazares said he spoke with Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas at a news conference Wednesday and told him that the police responded more slowly than officials had told the news media. During the news conference, Beto O’Rourke, a Democrat running for governor, was quickly escorted out after interrupting the proceedings.

“That swiftness at the school would have been awesome,” he said.

It’s like the only thing left to do would be to ban schools before they ever think about gun control.

NEW: Uvalde doubled its spending on school security since 2017. It hardened the school — hiring its own police force, installing fences. It created a threat reporting system & brought in social workers. It happened anyway. Latest w/@jonschuppe nbcnews.com/news/us-news/u

Cops stood outside the school while the killer rampaged inside. Onlookers yelled at them to go in. They didn’t. One parent urged bystanders: “Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to.” story:

Asked how much time passed between the gunman arriving at the school and being killed, Texas’ Director of Public Safety offered an indefinite response: “Forty minutes, an hour. But I don’t want to give you a particular timeline.” vice.com/en/article/pkp via
