    I talk a lot about mental health, especially among journalists, so I want to share that last summer, in the midst of opioid reporting and pay studying and a lot else, I could not stop thinking about killing myself.

    You really have to understand how huge Shakira’s performance was for the Middle Eastern community. She had belly dancing, a mijwiz and a derbeke, performed “Ojos Asi” which was one of the few Shakira songs to have Arabic in it, did a Zaghrouta, all love on the biggest stage

    Whoa. The state had the data —which showed immigrants & their kids at far higher risk of drowning—but did not bother to examine it. So we did. And then the state did. Taking the info from the media takes it out of the public’s hands.

    As a journalist who used death certificates to identify staffing negligence in Massachusetts nursing homes, I hate this idea. Let's have our elected leaders stick to fixing problems we have, not ones that do not yet exist.
