    Bird feeders promote , but also increase risk of predation, spread of diseases or competition. This house finch was treated for eye injuries after being attacked at a feeder by a squirrel. Visit to learn how you can help your feathered neighbours!

    owls have 3 eyelids? Notice how this snowy owl uses each one while getting eye drops. The 3rd eyelid (the nictitating membrane) is translucent and useful when owls need to protect their eyes but still need to see!

    This big brown bat is being given medication to prevent the two wounds on his side from getting infected. He was found out in the cold on a brick wall - once his wounds heal, he'll be placed in a temperature controlled room to hibernate until he can be released in the spring!

    When Wilf and Tracey found this Northern cardinal on the side of a road, likely after being hit by a car, and brought her to TWC for help. She had bruises on her wings, a fractured keel (chest bone) and eye ulcers... but after 2 weeks in care, the fracture and ulcers are healing!

    A trumpeter swan thrashed his head around in the water, convulsing as if he was having a seizure. TWC Rescue Team’s Andrew caught the swan to bring him in for emergency care. The poor bird was treated for head trauma, and blood samples were taken to test for possible poisoning.

    waterbirds have waterproofed feathers? This is due to an oil from a gland by their tail, which spreads as they preen (groom). Watch how the water rolls off in the video after a foreign substance (that hindered the waterproofing) is washed off this mallard at TWC.

    This Eastern cottontail was found paddling desperately in a window well that was filled with water! Thankfully, he was rescued before he could drown and brought to TWC uninjured. He'll be given food and time to recover at TWC, before soon returning home to the wild!

    This coyote was brought to TWC after she was found at the side of a road, likely hit by a car. She suffered head trauma but thankfully, she had no broken bones. She is scared and stressed, but is on the mend at TWC. Once she recovers, she'll soon return home!

    A young Cooper’s hawk is about to receive medication to help treat head trauma and swelling in a wounded foot. He was found in a subway station in Toronto, inside a gift bag! It’s uncertain how he ended up there, but it's clear he needed help. Hopes are high for a full recovery!

    This mourning dove had an injured wing and was unable to fly. She was brought to TWC where Registered Veterinary Technician Naschelly discovered an old, infected wound on the right wing. But now it's on the mend with antibiotics. Once the infection clears, she'll be released!

    Happy ! Volunteer Cory aka "The Squirrel Whisperer" brought this squirrel in over the holidays after she'd been hit by a car. He rushed her in to be treated for head & eye trauma. She recovered, and using his homemade squirrel carrier, Cory set her free!

    Great horned owls have adventurous appetites; theyˊll eat striped skunks?! Most predators will prey on skunks only if other options are extremely scarce; thanks to the their pungent spray. They’re considered the skunk’s only natural predator.
