Is Kovalchuck eligible to be chosen in the expansion draft?
4. As I understand it, these rules/scenarios are applicable if Kovalchuk wants to return to the NHL for the coming 2017-18 season.

Why would you expose him, he is obviously not coming back to play in vegas. Wants to be traded to a contender.

Why isn't the contract he signed (that had outstanding term) reinstated when he unretires? Seems like a way to get out of a bad contract.

Wasn't exactly a bad contact, he left a lot of $ on the table. He also wasn't eligible to return to the NHL until this coming season.
