I think the fights are excellent personally and well directed but that's a personal take so I can't really change your opinion regarding it, moreso just wanted to show why someone (like myself) would actually enjoy it.
my problem is that almost none of the klaxosaurs have any identity whatsoever and they all end in the same way while and while not looking awful does not do anything to be visually interesting

also while "fan service" can be used with meaning, it really has not been used much at all in this anime unlike KLK or Monogatari so i dont think that works in this case, the fact that they save the earth in doggystyle isnt even brought up anymore because its so irrelevant

/shrug the point of my messages wasn't to prosthelytize the beauty and artistic merit of DitF to you so much as it was to give you some context as to why someone might enjoy the show that's a fair criticism though

okay that is a criticsm I certainly agree with, I do wish we would learn more about the klaxosaurs (but again the focus is on the kids and less the world) but it's the only bit that is hardly even developed even in throwaway dialogue, save for like..... their class names.

the focus in evangelion is also on the kids (which this show obviously rips a lot from) yet they manage to make many memorable fights while also using them much better as plot points. if over half the show is treated as throwaway then i cant say that its anything but trash
