If you're willing to have a more analytical discussion about anime, mind if I ask what about darling in the franxx you don't like? I could wax philosophical about a lot of the good stuff the show has going on but it looks a lot like i'm just dickriding cute girls in robots tbqh
ill keep it short cause ive already talked about it on stream: bad unoriginal plot, the few interesting parts of the world get no focus, least subtle show of all time, awful pandering throughout.

on the world getting no focus, the world builds around you through establishing shots or lines characters say, it doesn't spend time on developing the world but all the pieces to latch on to are there (which is something I really love about it, personally)

this is something I just flat out disagree with, the show spends A LOT of time trying to "world build", the fights are awful, and it spends half the time screaming in your face THE CHILDREN WILL NOT BECOME ADULTS THEY ARE CLONES AND CHILD SOLDIERS while building nothing of it

I'll touch on each of these briefly just to give you an idea of why people might like the show the plot isn't the focus, but the relationships between the characters (which I think are interesting and worth watching, since the show's an exploration of puberty/relationships)

I included the "relationship" part in the plot point, and no, i do not think that any of the relationship stuff is handled well or is at all original. There are a million anime that explore "puberty/relationships" , 95% of anime is set in high school lmao

I think using subtlety as a basis for quality is a bit reductive, but I don't think that makes it intrinsically a bad thing that it isn't subtle, because again -- as an exploration of youth relationships and puberty, oftentimes it can't be subtle
