UPDATE vegeta is OK
Vegeta isnt that good by himself, but he multiplies the other chars strength and cell/gohan are just so good while simultaneously not having great assists that he becomes that much better of a pick

Cell assist is a bit awkward to convert from and is at an angle where he cannot convert off of some things midscreen. Gohan assist can launch people back up for an extension, but I believe it's the L version of his DP, so it's not invuln or anything crazy.

Because he's approached a level that most people can't attain, so when he has one moment of fail, this is the only stab that haters have, so they have to take it.

I will say that vegeta having the only real air dp that beats superdash is something somewhat significant for him as a solo character.
