Phantom power isn’t going to do anything by itself for a dynamic mic

I just got a Scarlett 2i2 for audio production, make sure you have either studio headphones, a quarter inch->3.5mm adapter, or studio monitors. You won't be able to use regular speakers or headphones plugged into your computer AFAIK.

A cloudlifter is generally the go to for the sure sm7b. It uses what's called phantom power (which the Scarlett 2i2 has) to give the mic more gain. If you Google it you can find out more about it.

Dynamic microphones do not need phantom power. Phantom power is an additional 48V that allows the capacitor in a condenser microphone (still called "capacitor" mics by the British) to function. Phantom power is not a gain boost.

Leff you need a pre-amp to get power into your mic to raise the gain. Dbx 286s is the pro option, but a cloudlifter cl-1 will do the trick too
